Our Range of Mirabelle Plum Trees. These plum trees are known and appreciated for their small golden plums, juicy and very sweet, which are harvested in late summer. They can be eaten fresh, as jam or in tarts.
The mirabelle plum tree (Prunus domestica, mirabelle group) is a fruit tree with moderate growth (3 to 5 m tall), hardy, with white flowering in March-April, sensitive to late frosts. It fruits quickly and its mirabelles are ripe from mid-August to early September depending on the variety.
The reference is the Mirabelle de Nancy : its golden yellow fruits punctuated with russet, with very sweet and fragrant flesh, are harvested from mid-August; partially self-fertile, it fruits better near another compatible plum tree like the Reine-Claude d'Oullins. The Mirabelle de Metz produces slightly smaller fruits, but very tasty, with thin skin, amber yellow, which are harvested rather at the end of August. Miragrande produces larger mirabelles, with firm and juicy flesh, for the table and pastries.
The Mirabelle Plum Tree should be planted in full sun, sheltered from cold winds, in a deep, fertile, well-drained soil. Plant it preferably in autumn, water regularly for the first 2-3 years, mulch the base and add some compost in spring. Watch out for common diseases of plum trees (brown rot on fruits and flowers, aphids, plum moth). These plum trees are often grafted onto cherry plum, which influences their development and precocity.
