Our Range of Summer-Flowering Abelias. Among summer-flowering bushes, abelias have few rivals for flowering in borders, informal hedges and terraces from July to October.
With semi-evergreen foliage, they reach between 60 cm and 2 m in height. This category includes many cultivars from Abelia x grandiflora, as well as several selections of Abelia chinensis, a beautiful melliferous Chinese species that bears highly fragrant white cut flower arrangements in late summer.
These bushes bear small white to pink bell-shaped flowers, followed by colourful bracts, which remain decorative well into the season.
Among the great classics, Edward Goucher forms a bush of 1.20–1.50 m covered in mauve-pink flowers until the first frosts. Hopleys, valued for its cream-marginate foliage, reaches about 1.20 m. More compact, Confetti (60–80 cm) is suitable for small spaces and container growing; its pinkish-white bell-shaped flowers bloom on finely variegated pink and white foliage.

Plant your abelias in sun or partial shade, in well-drained, fairly fertile soil; they tolerate chalky soil and summer drought once established. Plant them in spring or autumn, avoid heavy soils and excess water; in a cold climate, a sheltered location is essential.
