Our Spring-Flowering Abelias. Like the Abelia mosanensis Monia, these varieties flower from April to June. Bushy, semi-evergreen bushes, they are covered in pink or white bell-shaped flowers, which are very melliferous and more or less fragrant. They grow to 0.8 to 2 metres tall depending on the variety and are used for low hedges, borders or large pots.
Abelia mosanensis, the earliest, is distinguished by its powerful jasmine scent. Its cultivar Sweet Emotion produces white cut flower arrangements tinged with pink from April-May onwards; it is very hardy and well-suited to cool climates. Monia retains this same fragrant character, with a generous flowering in May-June on a rounded bush. On the Abelia × grandiflora side, Radiance offers bright variegated foliage and flowers from June. Kaleidoscope also offers decorative foliage and white flowers in June. Pink Pong reaches 1.60 m, it is a very floriferous variety, whose large violet-pink flowers bloom from May to October.

The Abelia is planted in sun or partial shade, in a well-drained and fertile soil, sheltered from cold winds. It is planted in spring or autumn; water it regularly in the first year and prune it lightly just after flowering. Heavy, clay soils that are waterlogged are not suitable.
